WTC Health Program PSA: Devon + Bejan

WTC Health Program PSA: Devon + Nadia

Summer 2026

Dear PSA Director,

Twenty-five years after the events of September 11, the impact of that day is still unfolding.

For millions of Americans, 9/11 remains a defining moment in history. But for children and teens who were exposed to toxic dust, debris, and trauma in lower Manhattan, the effects may only now be emerging in their physical and mental health.

Today, many of those individuals are young adults between the ages of 25 and 46, and some may be experiencing chronic health conditions without realizing their symptoms could be linked to 9/11 exposure.

These compelling public service announcements from the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program help raise awareness about the long-term health effects of 9/11 and the care available to those impacted. The federally funded Program, administered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), provides no-cost medical monitoring and treatment for certified 9/11-related health conditions to eligible survivors and responders.

At the center of these PSAs are powerful personal stories of survival, resilience, and care.

In one spot, 9/11 survivor Nadia shares her experience of exposure to harmful debris at Ground Zero and her later cancer diagnosis. As New York City sketch artist and influencer Devon Rodriguez draws her portrait, Nadia reflects on her journey and how the WTC Health Program helped her access critical care.

In another PSA, Devon sketches Bejan as he recounts his experience as a child affected by 9/11. Years after 9/11, Bejan developed both physical and mental health conditions linked to his exposure. Through the WTC Health Program, he was able to receive the treatment and support he needed.

We appreciate your consideration to broadcast the enclosed PSAs whenever public service time is available. By airing these messages, you can help connect eligible individuals with potentially life-changing care and ensure the lasting health impacts of 9/11 are not forgotten.

This PSA campaign is timed to the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Please remove it from circulation by November 27, 2026.

DEVON: So can you tell us about your connection to 9/11

NADIA: I was entering my third year as a college student at New York University. I had a pretty clear shot of the World Trade Center Towers. Spent a lot of time at Ground Zero for my journalism classes.

DEVON: Can you speak about your 9/11 related health conditions?

NADIA: I was diagnosed with a pretty aggressive and rare form of breast cancer called Metaplastic Breast Cancer. My diagnosis and my treatment was kind of rock bottom for me.

DEVON: Can you share a moment that made you especially grateful for the World Trade Center Health Program?

NADIA: It allowed me to have access to some amazing doctors that realize that Metaplastic breast cancer is not your typical breast cancer. The same way that New York recovered from the tragedy that I felt that I could do the same. The World Trade Center Health Program is here to help learn more today.

DEVON: How old were you on 9/11?

BEJAN: I was 13 years old. I was a student at IS 89. Grew up in downtown Manhattan.

DEVON: When did you first start to experience symptoms that you thought may have been related to 9/11?

BEJAN: Immediately after the tragedy, I was getting panic attacks. I was diagnosed with respiratory illness, anxiety, PTSD, depression. I was hesitant to share that, but I realized it’s important for me to talk openly about it.

DEVON: What do you wish more people knew about the long-term health effects?

BEJAN: A lot of people have medical illnesses directly related to exposure to toxins from 9/11. If you haven’t received help, signing up is the first step. The World Trade Center Health Program is here to help learn more today.
