(Atlanta, GA, Tuesday, February 26, 2019) – One company continues to set the standard for on-the-road safety year after year. UPS announced the induction of 1,436 drivers into its elite “Circle of Honor,” bringing the current total of drivers who have steered clear of accidents for 25 years or more to over 10,300. Collectively, the drivers have logged more than 14 billion miles and more than 298,957 years of safe driving through their careers. That’s enough miles to circle the earth at the equator over half a million times.
Tom Camp, the longest-tenured safe driver from Livonia, Michigan, talks about the commitment to driving safe.
SOUNDBITE #1:
ABOUT ONE POINT TWO-FIVE MILLION PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR AS A RESULT OF TRAFFIC CRASHES. THE NUMBER ONE SAFE DRIVING TIP I WOULD GIVE TO ANYONE, IS TO AVOID DISTRACTIONS WHILE DRIVING. PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONE, AND FOCUS ON THE JOB AT HAND, WHICH IS DRIVING SAFELY.
SOUNDBITE #2:
MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS COST NEARLY ONE TRILLION DOLLARS IN PRODUCTIVITY AND LOST QUALITY OF LIFE. WE TEACH DRIVERS TO USE A SPACE CUSHION LEAVING AMPLE SPACE BETWEEN YOUR VEHICLE AND THE ONE IN FRONT. TAILGATING IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER. THE MOST IMPORTANT STOP THEY MAKE EACH DAY IS BACK IN THEIR DRIVEWAY AT THE END OF THE DAY. AS IMPORTANT AS THEIR WORK IS, ARRIVING HOME SAFELY IS PARAMOUNT.
