According to small business owners, running their businesses has gotten harder during the last five years.  More than half of the small businesses responding to a recent Constant Contact survey, say the economy hit their business hard.  But, the good news is 72% of these businesses expect this year’s revenues to be up over last year.

Gail Goodman, CEO of Constant Contact, says that despite the economic challenges, small business owners are optimistic about what lies ahead.

SMALL BUSINESSES ARE FEELING THE IMPACT OF THE GROWING CONSUMER MOVEMENT TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES.  THEY ARE ALSO LEVERAGING THE POWER OF NEW TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGY.  WORD OF MOUTH REFERRALS ARE STILL THE BEST SOURCE OF NEW CUSTOMERS BUT NOW EIGHTY-SEVEN PERCENT OF SMALL BUSINESSES ARE USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO BOOST THOSE REFERRALS.
