Gavriella Schuster, General Manager of Worldwide Partner Programs at Microsoft

(Toronto, Canada, Wednesday, July 13, 2016) – On Tuesday at an event in Toronto, Canada, Microsoft addressed more than 14,000 of its partners about how every industry in every corner of the world is undergoing a digital transformation. Whether it’s energy providers, manufacturers, retailers, healthcare providers, auto makers or the airlines – many are making a move to the cloud, moving away from old ways of doing business – to a new digital future.  Industry analyst firm IDC is predicting that spending on cloud technology expected to top $500 billion by 2020 and more than 85 percent of Fortune 500 companies already have the Microsoft cloud.

Industry analyst firm IDC says that IT cloud services will reach $141 billion in revenue in 2019 and cloud spending – including hardware, software and the professional services for public/private cloud technology – will exceed $500 billion by 2020.*

Here are a few examples Microsoft shared to illustrate the innovations driving this ‘digital transformation’:

  • Holographic computing with PGA TOUR. Just imagine putting on Microsoft HoloLens and seeing your favorite golf course in 3D to learn the layout or track ball flight. Or maybe it’s the caddie or player using the HoloLens to visually identify the best tee-off locations and hazards and review how they played each hole after the round is complete.
  • Reliable electricity to schools and clinics in Nigeria. Companies are using cloud technology not just for work, but to better the world around us. For example, global energy management provider Schneider Electric, with operations in more than 100 countries, is helping to provide sustainable solar power to millions of people in Nigeria with cloud technology to enable remote monitoring and predictive maintenance to ensure a consistent power supply. These high-tech solar systems are anticipated to bring reliable electricity to 190,000 students and 4.7 million patients in Nigeria by 2020, creating more than 3,000 jobs.

The move to Microsoft’s Cloud is accelerating at record pace and is a key ingredient to digital transformation. With the largest channel network in the industry – including hundreds of thousands of partners – Microsoft is providing these partners with the tools and resources they need to help their own customers make a move to the cloud.
