Newest Cloud Technologies Showcased at Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2016

Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft

(Toronto, Canada, Tuesday, July 12, 2016) – This week from an event in Toronto, Canada, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella addressed more than 14,000 of its partners from around the world about how every industry in every corner of the world is undergoing a digital transformation. Not just a few companies are embarking on this change, but entire industries. Whether it’s manufacturers, retailers, healthcare providers, auto makers or the airlines – many are making a move to the cloud, moving away from old ways of doing business – to a new digital future. Microsoft is helping its partners make sense of this massive shift to the cloud so they can be profitable and experience business growth in the face of this digital transformation.

Industry analyst firm IDC says that IT cloud services will reach $141 billion in revenue in 2019 and cloud spending – including hardware, software and the professional services for public/private cloud technology – will exceed $500 billion by 2020.*

A few examples Microsoft shared of businesses making this ‘digital transformation’ include:

  • Holographic computing with Japan Airlines. Using Microsoft HoloLens, Japan Airlines (JAL) has developed two proof-of-concept programs to provide supplemental training for engine mechanics, and for flight crew trainees who want to be promoted to co-pilot status. HoloLens enables employees to study and be trained just as if they were working on the actual engine or cockpit, placing their hands on virtual engines and parts.
  • Global brands moving to the cloud. More than 85 percent of Fortune 500 companies have the Microsoft cloud. General Electric (GE), a leader in intelligent machines, will make GE’s Predix platform for the Industrial Internet available on the Microsoft Azure cloud for industrial businesses.

The move to Microsoft’s Cloud is accelerating at record pace and is a key ingredient to digital transformation. With the largest channel network in the industry – including hundreds of thousands of partners – Microsoft is providing these partners with the tools and resources they need to help their own customers make a move to the cloud.
