(Washington, DC, Thursday, September 8, 2022) – With Medicare scams on the rise, it’s important to be aware of the types of fraud and scams that can occur – especially for seniors. Health care fraud can happen to anyone – it doesn’t discriminate and affects all races, ethnicities, and income and education levels. Recently there have been many scams related to the COVID-19 pandemic – often leading to identity theft or extra charges on a bill.
The Senior Medicare Patrol program is a national program under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living. Its mission is to work with Medicare beneficiaries to prevent health care fraud, errors and abuse.
Rebecca Kinney, Director of the Administration for Community Living, Office of Healthcare Information and Counseling, discusses the Senior Medicare Patrol, how to spot health care fraud, common types of fraud/scams, and what to do if a senior has fallen victim to fraud or suspects they have been scammed.
