The Volvo Ocean Race is considered to be one of the world’s toughest sporting events. Covering more than 39,000 miles of challenging oceans, the 9-month-long sailing race around the world is the ultimate test of strength and endurance.

32-year-old Wisconsin-native and former U.S. Olympian, Sally Barkow is the first American woman to make the all-woman SCA Team and is embracing the challenge.

(BARKOW)

IT’S A REALLY COOL CHALLENGE AND I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE PART OF THE TEAM.  IT’S THE FIRST TIME IN OVER TEN YEARS THAT AN ALL FEMALE TEAM HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE A PART OF THE VOLVO OCEAN RACE.  WE’RE REPRESENTING ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST ADMIRED COMPANIES AND EIGHTY PERCENT OF THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE WOMEN, SO IT’S A GREAT CONNECTION.  I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO REPRESENTING THE UNITED STATES AND WOMEN EVERYWHERE.

The team is training now in Lanzarote, Spain, and the race will set sail in October. To learn more about the race and follow the team, visit TeamSCA.com.
