The Choosing Wisely Minnesota Campaign Features Information for Patients and Doctors Created by Medical Experts

Dear PSA Director,

Going to the doctor? If so, a local campaign wants to ensure you get the appropriate care during your visit.

The Choosing Wisely Minnesota campaign features information for patients and doctors created by medical experts and supported by Consumer Reports that aims to reduce unnecessary care.

Dr. Howard Epstein with the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement says that there are a number of common practices that the campaign says patients and doctors should question.

For information on Choosing Wisely Minnesota and the medical groups involved, visit ConsumerHealthChoices.org/MinnesotaPlease add this PSA into heavy rotation between now and January 31, 2014.

Thank you in advance for your support.

:30 PSA SCRIPT

“THIS CAMPAIGN CHALLENGES THE BELIEF THAT MORE CARE EQUALS BETTER CARE. IN FACT, THINGS SUCH AS IMMEDIATELY GETTING AN X-RAY OR MRI FOR LOW BACK PAIN, OR TAKING ANTIBIOTICS FOR SORE THROATS AND MOST SINUS INFECTIONS, MAY ACTUALLY CAUSE MORE HARM THAN GOOD. WHEN PATIENTS AND THEIR DOCTORS DISCUSS THEIR CARE AND CHOOSE WISELY TOGETHER, PATIENTS RECEIVE THE RIGHT CARE AT THE RIGHT TIME.”
