Dear PSA Director,

Although deaths related to pregnancy are rare, most are preventable. We lose too many American Indian and Alaska Native mothers each year from complications related to pregnancy. In fact, American Indian and Alaska Native women are two times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than White women.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Division of Reproductive Health is committed to improving outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native mothers.

The CDC’s Hear Her public service campaign amplifies the voices of American Indian and Alaska Native women who have experienced complications during or after pregnancy. Through this campaign, they share warning signs and symptoms, and how they got the care they needed.

Everyone has a role to play in preventing pregnancy-related deaths. The Hear Her campaign seeks to encourage spouses, partners, friends, and healthcare providers to listen when a pregnant or postpartum friend or family member says something doesn’t feel right. Recognizing the urgent maternal warning signs and getting care immediately can help save lives.

We hope you will help broadcast these important PSAs whenever public service time is available throughout the year. These spots are evergreen; there is no end date.
