The Hunger Report Focuses on the Impact of Climate Change on Hunger – Both Here and Globally

(Washington D.C., Thursday, April 20, 2017) – Bread for the World Institute is releasing a new series of stories and interviews based on the award-winning Hunger Report, Fragile Environments, Resilient Communities. Episode 1 of The Hunger Reports focuses on the impact of climate change on hunger – both here and globally. It includes a video, “Too Wet, Too Dry, Too Hungry,” with climate change expert Bill McKibben, author, professor, and founder of the grassroots environmental group 350.org.
The Hunger Reports debuts in time for the celebration of Earth Day and the massive National March for Science on April 22 and People’s Climate March on April 29. These marches, and the environment in general, have gained more prominence as the Trump Administration recently proposed major budget cuts that will gut the Environmental Protection Agency.
The climate change that is impacting people in Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and other countries is also impacting the United States. People are no longer able to grow crops in places they had been farming for generations. Some places are becoming too hot and arid; others too wet.
To make matters worse, it’s the people who are already poor and marginalized who have been hardest hit by the effects of climate change. If left unabated, climate change will continue to increase hunger and poverty throughout the world.
