(Washington, DC, Thursday, September 3, 2020)  –This year, the U.S. has already been impacted by devastating weather events, including wildfires in California, extreme wind and rain from Hurricane Laura, tornadoes, floods, and even a heartbreaking derecho in the Midwest. As COVID-19 continues to impact communities, families are navigating both a busy disaster season and a global pandemic.

• Just last week, Hurricane Laura displaced thousands of people, destroying homes and businesses and leaving some areas unreachable.
• In California, wildfires continue to burn, with thousands needing to leave their homes and communities – and still can’t return home due to these devastating fires.

While generous donations to the Red Cross have helped, those who have been upended by disasters across the country will need more assistance than ever – including food, shelter, relief supplies and comfort.
