With Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations in the works, families are often juggling too much at once, increasing potential holiday-related hazards and preventable property damage. Many holiday traditions — including trees, fireworks, decorative lights, candles, preparing elaborate meals — can pose risks if not handled properly.
Kathy Mabe, President of Western U.S. and Canada for Allstate, describes how homeowners can prepare and protect their homes for the holidays.

Our data shows that, on average, theft claims increase seven percent and fire claims increase fifteen percent. Candles are the most likely holiday-related cause of a home fire. Dedicating just a few moments toward extra safety precautions – like never leaving burning candles unattended and routinely checking that all candles are extinguished before going to bed each night, families can celebrate with better peace of mind this season.
