(Atlanta, GA, Wednesday, February 26, 2020) – One company continues to set the standard for on-the-road safety year after year. UPS announced the induction of 1,316 drivers into its elite “Circle of Honor,” bringing the current total of drivers who have steered clear of accidents for 25 years or more to over 10,400.

Collectively, the drivers have logged more than 15 billion miles and more than 280,969 years of safe driving through their careers. The drivers have traveled more accident-free miles than the Earth’s most far-flung spaceship, the Voyager 1 space probe.

Todd Wachter, global director of fleet safety, talks about the commitment to driving safe.

SOUNDBITE #1:

WE HAVE NEARLY EIGHT HUNDRED DRIVERS THAT ARE ACCIDENT-FREE FOR MORE THAN THIRTY-FIVE YEARS. OUR DRIVERS’ SAFETY RECORDS SPEAK VOLUMES ABOUT OUR COMMITMENT TO TRAINING. I CAN OFFER A SOLID TIP FOR THE DRIVING PUBLIC THAT WE EMPHASIZE EVERY SINGLE DAY. ALWAYS LEAVE A SPACE CUSHION BETWEEN YOU AND THE CAR AHEAD. THAT SINGLE DRIVING HABIT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.

SOUNDBITE #2:

LAST YEAR, WE INVESTED MORE THAN TWO-HUNDRED AND NINE MILLION DOLLARS IN SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAMS. BEFORE EVER MAKING A DELIVERY, ALL OF OUR DRIVERS ARE TAUGHT SAFE-DRIVING METHODS THROUGH THE COMPANY’S DEFENSIVE DRIVING PLATFORM. THE TRAINING CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THEIR CAREERS. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT STOP OUR DRIVERS MAKE IS WHEN THEY’RE BACK IN THEIR DRIVEWAY AT THE END OF THE DAY.
