1,575 Drivers Inducted to the Elite “Circle of Honor”

(Atlanta, GA, Monday, February 20, 2017) – One company continues to set the standard for on-the-road safety year after year. UPS announces the induction of 1,575 drivers into its elite “Circle of Honor,” raising to 9,349 the number of drivers who have steered clear of accidents for 25 years or more. Collectively, the 9,349 drivers have logged more than 14 billion miles and more than 266,000 years of safe driving through their careers. That’s enough miles to circle the earth 553,000 times.

Tom Brokop, director of corporate transportation schools at UPS, comments on the organization’s commitment to safe driving.

SOUNDBITE #1:

ABOUT ONE POINT TWO-FIVE MILLION PEOPLE DIE EACH YEAR AS A RESULT OF TRAFFIC CRASHES.  THE NUMBER ONE SAFE DRIVING TIP I WOULD GIVE TO ANYONE, IS TO AVOID DISTRACTIONS WHILE DRIVING.  PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONE, AND FOCUS ON THE JOB AT HAND, WHICH IS DRIVING SAFELY.

SOUNDBITE #2:

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS COST NEARLY ONE TRILLION DOLLARS IN PRODUCTIVITY AND LOST QUALITY OF LIFE.  WE TEACH DRIVERS TO USE A SPACE CUSHION LEAVING AMPLE SPACE BETWEEN THEIR VEHICLE AND THE ONE IN FRONT.  TAILGATING IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER.  THE MOST IMPORTANT STOP THEY MAKE EACH DAY IS BACK IN THEIR DRIVEWAY AT THE END OF THE DAY.  AS IMPORTANT AS THEIR WORK IS, ARRIVING HOME SAFELY IS PARAMOUNT.
