Corporate Boards Aren’t Being Briefed on Cybersecurity and Executives Don’t See It As a Strategic Priority
Valecia Maclin, Director, Cybersecurity & Special Missions at Raytheon
(Waltham, MA, Friday, February 23, 2018) – The 2018 Global Megatrends in Cybersecurity study was released with an alarming message. The majority of the 1,100 commercial and government IT professionals surveyed worldwide believe they will have a catastrophic cyber breach in the next few years. Recent Congressional testimony mirrors this warning.
But, despite this gloomy forecast, corporate boards aren’t being briefed on cybersecurity and executives don’t see it as a strategic priority.
Valecia Maclin, senior director, Cybersecurity & Special Missions at Raytheon, believes business leaders ignore the cyber threat at their own peril.
SOUNDBITE #1:
THESE RESULTS SHOULD CONCERN US ALL. CYBER ATTACKS ARE INCREASINGLY AGGRESSIVE AND GROWING MORE COMPLEX EACH DAY. EVERYONE IS AT RISK — WHEN EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED, EVERYTHING IS VULNERABLE. NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF ORGANIZATION YOU ARE IN, THE CYBER THREAT NEEDS MORE ATTENTION FROM EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP.
SOUNDBITE #2:
SENIOR LEADERS SHOULD MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO WORK WITH SECURITY PRACTITIONERS TO IDENTIFY WHERE THEY ARE VULNERABLE AND MAKE THE INVESTMENTS NEEDED TO REDUCE RISK. We HAve INVESTED BILLIONS IN CYBER RESEARCH, ACQUISITIONS, AND SOLUTIONS TO PROTECT EVERY SIDE OF CYBER FOR GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, BUSINESSES AND NATIONS.
