(Columbia, SC, Thursday, March 5, 2020) – More than 200,000 vehicles in South Carolina have unrepaired, recalled airbags.
These unrepaired, recalled airbags put drivers and passengers at risk. In a crash, defective airbags could rupture, spraying sharp, metal fragments that can cause injury or death.
When exposed to heat and humidity over time, recalled airbags can transform from life-saving devices to life-threatening ones. Recalled airbags are at an increased risk of rupturing in hot, humid climates like South Carolina.
Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram owners who get their recalled airbag fixed in March will be entered to win a reward. The reward is a $250 Design my Travel Visa® Prepaid Card to use for a hotel stay, rental car or other travel expenses.
The National Safety Council’s Check To Protect program urges all drivers to make safety a priority by checking their vehicles, and getting their defective airbags repaired immediately. It only takes three simple steps to protect the ones you love:
- Locate your vehicle’s 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN) on your driver’s side dashboard or registration documents.
- Enter your VIN intoorg to check for open recalls.
- Schedule a FREE repair appointment at your local dealership.
It’s urgent that every driver in South Carolina visits CheckToProtect.org to see if their car has an open airbag recall, and schedules a free repair appointment at a local dealer.
