(Baton Rouge, LA, Thursday, September 5, 2019) – September is Airbag Recall Repair Month in Louisiana. More than 56,000 vehicles in the New Orleans-Metairie metropolitan area and nearly 152,000 vehicles in Louisiana have unrepaired, recalled airbags. That’s more than 11% of all passenger vehicles statewide.

These unrepaired, recalled airbags put drivers and passengers at risk. In a crash, defective airbags could rupture, spraying sharp, metal fragments that can cause injury or death.

When exposed to heat and humidity over time, recalled airbags can transform from life-saving devices to life-threatening ones. Recalled airbags are at an increased risk of rupturing in hot, humid climates like Louisiana.

Hosted by the National Safety Council’s Check To Protect program, the Airbag Recall Repair Month campaign urges all drivers to make safety a priority by checking their vehicles, and getting their defective airbags repaired immediately. It only takes three simple steps to protect the ones you love.

1. Locate your vehicle’s 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN) on your driver’s side dashboard or registration documents.
2. Enter your VIN intoorg to check for open recalls.
3. Schedule a FREE repair appointment at your local dealership.
