(Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Wednesday, September 26, 2018) – A recent survey found that 33 percent of Florida seniors polled felt they made a mistake when choosing their Medicare Advantage plan.

Sixty-six percent of the dissatisfied respondents said the top reason was they have more health needs than they did five years ago and their current plan is no longer sufficient. This sentiment was reflected by nearly half of respondents (49 percent) who said that their current plan did not cover enough.

Dariel Quintana [PRONOUNCED DARE-EE-EL KEEN-TA-NA], the Florida market president for Devoted Health, which commissioned the study, explains why it is a good time for seniors to assess their current plan and even consider switching doctors.

SOUNDBITE #1:

THE MEDICARE ANNUAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD, WHICH STARTS IN OCTOBER, IS A GOOD TIME FOR SENIORS TO ASSESS THEIR PLANS. IF SENIORS FEEL THEY COULD BE BETTER SERVED BY MAKING A CHANGE, THEY SHOULD CONSIDER SWITCHING HEALTH PLANS OR EVEN THEIR DOCTOR. SOMETIMES MAKING A CHANGE CAN RESULT IN MUCH BETTER COVERAGE OR CARE.

SOUNDBITE #2:

SENIORS SHOULD MAKE A LIST OF WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO THEM AS HEALTHCARE CONSUMERS.  THIS LIST SHOULD INCLUDE – WHAT PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM? WHAT HOSPITALS ARE NEARBY OR ALSO IMPORTANT TO THEM? AND ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC PHYSICIANS THAT THEY MUST HAVE ON THEIR PLAN? ONCE THEY HAVE THIS LIST, THEY SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN AND HAVE IT IN FRONT OF THEM WHEN THEY MEET WITH AN INSURANCE AGENT, TO MAKE SURE THEY SELECT A PLAN THAT DOES MEET ALL THEIR NEEDS.
