(INTRO)

National Adoption Day 2011 is Saturday, November 19. It’s a day when more than 350 community events are held across the United States to finalize the adoptions of children in foster care and celebrate adoptive families. During the last eleven years, more than 35,000 children have been adopted from foster care on this special day.

White Collar actor Willie Garson adopted his now 10-year-old son Nathen from U.S. foster care in 2010. Today he has this to say about foster care adoption:

(GARSON)

NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY IS ABOUT RAISING AWARENESS OF THE SIGNIFICANT NEED TO FIND ADOPTIVE FAMILIES FOR THE MANY CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE. I FIRST BECAME INTERESTED IN ADOPTING AFTER ATTENDING A LOS ANGELES EVENT IN 2006. AS AN ADOPTIVE PARENT, I’VE CHANGED THE COURSE OF MY SON’S LIFE. AND HE HAS GIVEN ME MORE THAN I COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED.
