National Safe Boating Week is May 18 to 24. It kicks off the North American Safe Boating Campaign – “Wear It!” – a national campaign focused on boating safety and consistent life jacket wear.
National campaign coordinator, Rachel Johnson, says each year approximately 500 people drown from recreational boating accidents. Life jacket wear is a simple way to save lives while boating.

THERE’S NO EXCUSE NOT TO WEAR A LIFE JACKET. IT IS AN EFFECTIVE AND SIMPLE LIFE-SAVING STRATEGY FOR SAFE RECREATIONAL BOATING. NO MATTER HOW GOOD A SWIMMER YOU ARE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHILE YOU’RE BOATING. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN MUCH TO FAST TO PUT ON A STOWED LIFE JACKET. YOU CAN STILL HAVE FUN ON THE WATER WHILE ALSO CHOOSING TO ALWAYS WEAR A LIFE JACKET AND BOAT RESPONSIBLY.
