(INTRO)
The beginning of October marks Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week. Lawsuit abuse is a drag on the economy, and voters know that it is a problem. A recent study from Sick of Lawsuits found that 78 percent of registered voters say the “nation suffers from too many lawsuits.”
Spokesperson Travis Akin says voters must stay informed about the dangerous effects of lawsuit abuse.

WE ALL PAY THE PRICE OF PERSONAL INJURY LAWYERS GAMING OUR LEGAL SYSTEM. LAWSUIT ABUSE HURTS US ALL-IT INCREASES THE PRICES OF GOODS AND SERVICES. IT EATS UP TAXPAYER DOLLARS. IT INCREASES HEALTH CARE COSTS AND IT THREATENS THE ECONOMY. THIS LEAVES LITTLE WONDER THAT SEVENTY THREE PERCENT OF VOTERS SURVEYED SAY THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO SUPPORT A CANDIDATE WHO ADVOCATES FOR LIABILITY REFORMS. LEGAL REFORM NEEDS TO BE A PRIORITY BEFORE OUR ECONOMY FALLS FURTHER BEHIND.

Additional soundbite from David Houston is the Owner of Barney’s Beanery and a member of California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse:
I RUN A SMALL BUSINESS, AND I’VE SEEN HOW ABUSIVE LAWSUITS CAN HURT SMALL BUSINESSES AND THEIR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES. NINETY EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR IS SPENT BY SMALL BUSINESSES TO COVER THE COST OF AMERICA’S TORT SYSTEM. TO FIX OUR NATION’S ECONOMY, WE NEED TO CREATE JOBS, NOT LAWSUITS.
