(Alexandria, VA, Friday, June 10, 2022) – Oncology professionals from around the world are gathering in Chicago to discuss the latest clinical cancer research impacting patient care at the 2022 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. Advances in therapies for rare and pediatric cancers, findings on disparities among patients with cancer, and new treatment options for patients with advanced breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers are among the topics that were highlighted this week.

  • A study examining the association between Medicaid and other social services spending on racial and ethnic disparities and overall survival for newly diagnosed patients with cancer.
  • A retrospective study examining racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic survival disparities among children with high-risk neuroblastoma.
  • A survey looking at participation in clinical trials among Black patients with metastatic breast cancer.
  • A retrospective study of disparities in the use of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Gralow is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Executive Vice President of ASCO and brings to her role deep expertise in patient care, research, education, and global health. As founder of the Women’s Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network (WE CAN), she supports patient advocates in low- and middle-resource countries. Dr. Gralow received the ASCO Humanitarian Award in 2018 for her work in empowering women cancer patients and survivors globally. She is a recognized leader in breast cancer clinical research, and has conducted clinical trials in breast cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
