Movement Started in Maryland in 2010 Grows Southward
(Friday, November 6, 2015, Chapel Hill, NC) – On Sunday, May 1, 2016 more than 300 kids will come together to swim, bike and run at JUST TRYAN IT’s first annual kids triathlon at 8:00 a.m. at the Chapel Hill Country Club. In addition, on Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m., JUST TRYAN IT will grant $50,000 in total, $25,000 each, to UNC and Duke Children’s to support families undergoing treatment for pediatric cancers and blood disorders. The joint check presentation will be made at the Chapel Hill Country Club and will officially launch the initiative in North Carolina.
The JUST TRYAN IT’s kids triathlon is in its sixth year in its home base of Bethesda, MD, at Landon School. The expansion is a natural extension of this inspiring movement to get kids ages 6 to 16 physically active and to initiate a life of philanthropy. JUST TRYAN IT, a 501(c)3 foundation, raises money for families fighting childhood cancer. JUST TRYAN IT strives to inspire children to make a difference in their communities and empowers them to seek out pledges and raise awareness of the many struggles facing families with sick children. Since its inception in 2010, JUST TRYAN IT has granted more than $750,000, and this year’s goal is to raise an additional $250,000. Local sponsors secured in North Carolina to date are Sports Endeavors, Inc. and Spoonflower.
“Fighting cancer is difficult enough, and JUST TRYAN IT is committed to helping families avoid dealing with a financial battle as well,” said JUST TRYAN IT co-founder Mollie Darby. “This race truly embodies the power of paying it forward, and the kids who participate continue to amaze us with their big hearts and extraordinary fundraising efforts to help other children in need.”
JUST TRYAN IT was founded in 2010 to help other families fighting childhood cancer when Mollie’s then six-year-old son Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia. Moved by the number of families who were dealing not only with the stress of their child’s cancer diagnosis, but also struggling with the financial strains of treatment, Mollie’s friends sprang into action and founded JUST TRYAN IT to provide financial assistance for everyday bills. The funds raised over the years are making a profound and direct impact on the lives of families dealing with childhood cancer.
JUST TRYAN IT, Inc. is a non-profit foundation supporting families fighting childhood cancer. JUST TRYAN IT seeks to positively impact the lives of families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer by providing them with financial assistance.
