(INTRO)
Though it’s been nine years since a hurricane hit Florida, it’s no time for residents to let down their guard. Floridians should take safety precautions before, during and after a storm.
Florida Power and Light’s Bryan Garner provides safety tips and reminds us to plan for power outages if a hurricane strikes.

EARLY IN STORM SEASON IS THE TIME TO PLAN. CONSIDER EVACUATION ROUTES, MEDICAL NEEDS, IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS, DOCUMENTS AND SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED IN AN EMERGENCY. THIS IS ALSO THE TIME TO HAVE A PROFESSIONAL TRIM YOUR TREES, RATHER THAN WAITING UNTIL A STORM APPROACHES, WHEN FLYING DEBRIS CAN BE DANGEROUS. PLAN FOR WHAT YOU WOULD DO IF POWER WERE OUT FOR AN EXTENDED TIME. IF YOU HAVE A GENERATOR, BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE PRODUCT INSTRUCTIONS.NEVER OPERATE A GENERATOR INSIDE YOUR HOME OR GARAGE, AND PLUG APPLIANCES DIRECTLY INTO THE GENERATOR, NOT INTO YOUR MAIN ELECTRIC PANEL.
