Biometrics are unique physical characteristics, such as fingerprints, that can be used for automated recognition. US-VISIT is a biometric and biographic identity management system, administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Biometric Identity Management, that helps federal, state and local officials safeguard travelers at airports and ports of entry around the world.

Rocky Thurston, who leads Accenture’s work with the Department of Homeland Security, outlines what this means for our overall safety.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING IS HELPING PROTECT THE INTEREST OF THE AMERICAN CITIZEN AND SECURING SAFE TRADE AND TRAVEL ACROSS US BORDERS. THE SYSTEM ITSELF ACTUALLY HAS HELPED DETAIN MORE THAN SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND WANTED  FELONS IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS AND EVERYDAY IT STOPS AN ESTIMATED FIFTY WANTED CRIMINALS FROM ENTERING THE COUNTRY.
