(Washington, D.C., Wednesday, October 6, 2021) – What can you do if you or a loved one gets diagnosed with COVID-19 today? While monoclonal antibodies can help prevent mild to moderate symptoms from getting worse for those who qualify, only one FDA-approved treatment for COVID-19 exists—and it’s for hospitalized patients. Across the country, clinical trials are examining drugs to possibly treat COVID-19 in patients with mild to acute cases in a variety of settings—from the hospital room to the couch.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has created a one-stop resource to help individuals and healthcare providers in the fight against COVID-19 called, “Combat COVID.” The Combat COVID website (https://CombatCOVID.hhs.gov) offers information and practical tips about vaccines, potential treatments such as monoclonal antibodies, and information about how to take part in clinical trials for possible COVID-19 treatments.
COVID-19 has impacted every community and has hit the Black and Hispanic/Latino communities especially hard. The pandemic’s disproportionate toll on people of color underscores the need for racial and ethnic diversity in clinical trials for preventing and treating COVID-19.
