“A Gift For Andrés” Concert Aims to Raise $10,000
(Rockville, MD., Monday, December 11, 2017) – 123 Andrés — the Latin Grammy winner singer and songwriter bringing music and art for children, families and educators to learn, play and celebrate bilingualism and multiculturalism — will host a fundraising concert on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, raising funds to support the Greater DC Diaper Bank.
To match its exceptional growth in 2017, “A Gift For Andrés” concert aims to raise $10,000, more than double what they achieved last year. All proceeds go directly to supporting the Greater DC Diaper Bank and their commitment to providing free diapers to low-income families in the Washington DC area. Each ticket sold will provide one baby with diapers for an entire month.
“The funds raised during the ‘A Gift For Andrés’ concert are vital in our mission to ensure children and families have what they need to learn, play, sing and grow, and there’s no better way to do this than through music” says Andrés Salguero. “This event will be a magical holiday story for the whole family and will leave a smile on everyone’s face!”
The event will be held on December 17, 2017, at the Bender Jewish Community Center, at 6125 Montrose Rd, Rockville, MD 20852. There will be two concerts, at 11 AM and 2 PM.
Important community faces have joined the effort. The event’s emcees will be Markette Sheppard, children’s book author and host of WUSA’s Great Day Washington, and Valeria Barriga and Daniel Rivera of Telemundo.
Experts estimate a baby consumes between 100 and 200 diapers each month, costing families nearly $1,000 each year. What’s more, low-income families often lack the means to buy diapers in bulk, leaving many families to shop at convenience stores, where they pay up to 50¢ per diaper. The Greater DC Diaper Bank fills the gap by donating 175,000 diapers each month to low-income families in DC and nearby communities in Maryland and Virginia.
“We are so excited to work with 123 Andrés to raise diapers and awareness about the issue of family poverty,” says Corinne Cannon, Founder and Executive Director of the Greater DC Diaper Bank. “We love that this event is fun and helps vulnerable families across the region.”
