(Washington, D.C., Friday, July 22, 2022) – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alleges that text messages from the Secret Service on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021, were erased as part of a planned system migration.

The committee subpoenaed the Secret Service for the deleted messages on Friday, July 15 and will likely receive the documents on Tuesday, July 19. A Secret Service spokesperson said the agency has turned 800,000 records over to the committee.

The Secret Service informed the committee that the records could no longer be located due to a changeover to a new phone system.
