Dear PSA Director,

Most American voters  believe that the need for police reform is even more urgent in the wake of former police officer Derek Chauvin’s conviction for the murder of George Floyd.

In early March, the House took a good first step towards this reform by passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act (H.R. 1280). This bold, transformative legislation will help demilitarize policing, change police culture, raise the standards of the profession, and hold officers accountable. Yet, while we celebrate this progress, the bill’s fate in the Senate is uncertain.

We urge the Senate to now pass  specific, meaningful reforms included in the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.   This bill would ban the use of choke holds, end no-knock warrants, institute a national “necessary” use of lethal force standard, end the militarization of police, limited police immunity,  and implement other badly needed police reforms.

Find out how to help the Friends Committee on National Legislation’s efforts to end police violence at  www.fcnl.org/policing.

Please help by placing this PSA in heavy rotation between now and Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Thank you in advance for your support.
