(Washington, D.C., Tuesday, March 19, 2019) – Recently, Congress and the President have pledged to jumpstart investment in our national infrastructure, and public transportation is central to that legislation.  That’s because everyday millions of Americans depend on it to get them to work, to school, and to medical appointments. Investments in public transportation are investments that directly impact lives and communities.

The American Public Transportation Association is holding its 2019 Legislative Conference March 17 to 19 in Washington, D.C.  Public Transit CEOs will meet with federal and Congressional officials to show why additional dollars are critically needed and will make public transit services safer, more reliable and more convenient for residents.  They make the case more investment will grow the economies of local communities and the nation.

Paul P. Skoutelas, president and CEO of APTA, explains the importance in investing in public transit.

AN INFRASTRUCTURE BILL WILL PAY BIG DIVIDENDS FOR COMMUNITIES AND OUR NATION.  IN FACT, EVERY DOLLAR THAT’S INVESTED IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION GENERATES $4 IN ECONOMIC RETURNS. SO IT’S A SMART INVESTMENT THAT BENEFITS EVERYONE, WHETHER YOU RIDE PUBLIC TRANSIT OR NOT.

COUNTRIES ALL AROUND THE WORLD ARE INVESTING HEAVILY IN THEIR NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE.  AMERICA MUST DO THE SAME SO THAT WE REMAIN COMPETITIVE. THERE’S BROAD SUPPORT FROM AMERICANS ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR MORE INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE AND FOR INFRASTRUCTURE LEGISLATION THAT PROVIDES STRONG INVESTMENT FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

SOUNDBITE #3:

AMERICA NEEDS WORLD CLASS INFRASTRUCTURE. WE’RE URGING CONGRESS AND THE ADMINISTRATION TO ENACT A BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE BILL THAT PROVIDES CRITICALLY -NEEDED, INCREASED INVESTMENT FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATON.
