(New York, NY, Thursday, March 9, 2017) – If you are a woman graduating college in the class of 2020, you could be part of the first generation to close the gender pay gap in your professional lifetime, according to new research from Accenture.  The research, “Getting to Equal 2017,” reveals that we could close the pay gap by 2044 if women take advantage of three career equalizers and if business, government and academia provide critical support.

Julie Sweet, North America Chief Executive Officer, discusses the report.

SOUNDBITE #1:

CLOSING THE GENDER PAY GAP IS WITHIN REACH FOR THE CLASS OF TWENTY-TWENTY. TODAY’S COLLEGE WOMEN CAN HELP ERASE THE GAP IF THEY FOCUS ON A FEW CAREER ACCELERATORS … THIS MEANS BECOMING DIGITALLY FLUENT, SO THEY CAN ACCESS ONLINE EDUCATION AND NETWORK THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA …. IT ALSO MEANS AIMING HIGH AND MAKING INFORMED CAREER CHOICES STARTING IN COLLEGE … AND ACQUIRING GREATER TECHNOLOGY SKILLS BY TAKING STEM COURSE LIKE COMPUTER SCIENCE OR ENGINEERING.

SOUNDBITE #2:

GENDER EQUALITY IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF AN INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE, AND THIS EXTENDS TO PAY.  BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT AND ACADEMIA ALL HAVE AN IMPORTANT ROLE TO PLAY IN CLOSING THE GAP. COLLABORATION AMONG THESE ORGANIZATIONS IS CRITICAL TO PROVIDING THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITIES, ENVIRONMENTS AND ROLE MODELS TO LEAD THE WAY FOR CHANGE.
