There is a Public Comments Period Happening Now Until August 7, 2018

(Washington, DC, Thursday, August 2, 2018) – In March, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that he had directed the Census Bureau to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
- The Leadership Conference Education Fund maintains that adding the citizenship question is bad for the census, bad for our communities, and bad for America.
- The census is required by the Constitution and its accuracy is critically important for all people in the United States. A fair and accurate census – and the collection of useful, objective data about our nation’s people, housing, economy, and communities generally – is among the most important civil rights issues of our day.
- There is a public comments period happening now until August 7, 2018. We have until then to tell the Commerce Department to withdraw the citizenship question from the 2020 survey.
