Dear PSA Director,

At the start of Women’s History Month, the Senate is set to deliberate the reauthorization of the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act (S.3623). In a country where one in three women have experienced domestic and sexual violence, this bill is critical to stemming the problem.

The current version of VAWA represents a significant step forward, especially for tribal nations, where domestic and sexual violence occurs at unprecedented rates, and where cases involving murder or sexual assault by non-Natives frequently go unprosecuted.

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) believes that VAWA will provide Native American communities with the support and resources needed to address the ongoing crisis of violence on tribal lands.

Please help by placing this PSA in heavy rotation between now and Thursday, March 31, 2022. Thank you in advance for your support.

ONE IN THREE WOMEN EXPERIENCE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, WITH RATES ESPECIALLY HIGHER AMONG NATIVE AMERICANS. THE CRISIS OF MISSING AND MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN IS AN ONGOING TRAGEDY THAT DEMANDS ACTION. THE SENATE SHOULD PASS A BILL THAT PROTECTS NATIVE WOMEN BY RESPECTING TRIBAL SOVEREIGNTY AND RESTORING AND EXPANDING TRIBAL CRIMINAL JURISDICTION OVER NON-NATIVE PERPETRATORS OF VIOLENCE. TELL YOUR SENATORS TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND SUPPORT THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT. TO LEARN MORE, VISIT F-C-N-L DOT ORG SLASH V-A-W-A.
