The U.S. is Demanding that North Korea Dismantle its Nuclear Program Quickly in Exchange for Economic Inducements

(Washington D.C., Tuesday, June 12, 2018) – The on-and-off again US and North Korea Summit on June 12, 2018 in Singapore is back on after a historic meeting between President Donald Trump and a senior North Korean official late Friday afternoon (June 1).

The U.S. is demanding that North Korea dismantle its nuclear program quickly in exchange for economic inducements. Pyongyang, however, said it might give up some parts of its nuclear program — like give some missiles away — if the U.S. made its own concessions, like remove some U.S. troops from South Korea.

The Quaker lobby group, Friends Committee on National Legislation (www.fcnl.org) says that the summit affirms that war in the Korean Peninsula is not acceptable. Diplomacy is a marathon and not a sprint. Solutions to the problem must be based on negotiations, not threats.
