New Year Eye Resolution Public Service Announcement
30 Public Service Announcement
Dear PSA Director,
As seniors across the country make New Year’s Resolutions to live healthier and happier lives, the American Academy of Ophthalmology has a suggestion to add to their lists: “Get a dilated eye exam.” A simple eye exam can detect age-related eye disease early and help prevent vision loss. And, as with regular exercise, there is no excuse to forego an eye exam. This is especially true because EyeCare America, a public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, provides dilated eye exams and up to one year of care at no out-of-pocket cost to qualifying seniors age 65 and older.
Serious eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma often have no early symptoms or warning signs. However, it is in the early stages of eye disease that treatments can most effectively prevent blindness. The only way to catch many eye diseases early is through screening with a dilated eye exam.
To protect healthy vision, seniors age 65 and older should have a dilated eye exam with an ophthalmologist, an eye medical doctor, every one to two years or as recommended by an ophthalmologist. Seniors are encouraged to visit www.eyecareamerica.org to find out if they qualify for an eye exam at no out-of-pocket cost with one of EyeCare America’s 7,000 volunteer ophthalmologists.
To encourage seniors to take steps to protect their vision in the New Year, please place this PSA in heavy rotation between now and January 31, 2013.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Allison Neves
