May 15 marks Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Global Awareness Day. Also known as TSC, it’s a relatively little known, but devastating genetic disorder affecting more than one million people worldwide. Generally diagnosed in childhood, TSC causes tumors to form throughout the body, including in the brain and heart. It is linked to autism, epilepsy, kidney failure, learning disabilities, and more.

Kari Luther Rosbeck, president and CEO of the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, says research and early diagnosis are the keys to unlocking this disorder and others.
