(Portland, OR, Thursday, January 30, 2020) – Today, Portland General Electric Company announced a partnership and three-year $250,000 investment with Portland Public Schools to create a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive K-12 curriculum that explores the causes and consequences of climate change, as well as potential solutions.

The full implementation of the K-12 social studies and science curriculum will launch in Portland Public Schools in Fall 2021. Once developed, the curriculum, training materials and best practices will also be open source so other districts can implement and tailor for their schools.

In addition to funding, Portland General Electric employees will participate as content experts, co-creating supplemental classroom materials and project-based learning opportunities that will help students understand the important role of clean energy in reducing carbon and fighting climate change.

This partnership is part of the company’s commitment to empower youth to create cleaner, greener, more equitable communities through climate literacy and environmental stewardship.
