The Second Annual #GivingTuesday Will be Held on Dec. 3, as an International Day of “Giving”
Steve MacLaughlin, Director of Blackbaud’s Idea Lab
(Charleston, SC, Monday, November 25, 2013) – With two days for “buying” (Black Friday and Cyber Monday), the second annual #GivingTuesday will be held on Dec. 3, as an international day of “giving. Last year, Blackbaud, a global nonprofit software provider, processed $10 million in online donations to nonprofits on #GivingTuesday, a 53 percent increase over the same day the previous year. Eighteen percent of all charitable giving to nonprofits in the United States occurs in December.
Charitable giving in 2013 is recovering, albeit slowly. According to The Blackbaud Index, through September, overall giving YTD is up 4.5% over 2012 – almost 3x the growth rate at this time last year. These last months will be critical to how the nonprofit sector will finish out what has been a promising year in charitable giving.
