(Redmond, WA, Friday, January 17, 2020) — Yesterday, at a live-streamed event, Microsoft announced an expanded emphasis on environmental sustainability.
As a part of this goal, the company will reduce its entire footprint by half by 2030, including its supply chain, and remove more carbon than it emits annually. By 2050, it will remove all the carbon it has emitted directly or via electricity consumption since it was founded in 1975.
Additionally, Microsoft announced that it will:
- Create a $1 billion climate innovation fund to accelerate development of solutions to address climate change
- Work with customers and partners to help them track and reduce their own carbon footprints
- Use its voice to support public policies to accelerate carbon reduction and removal opportunities
The event included discussion of the new corporate ambitions, highlighted work with partners, and showcased investments in new technology designed to help the world track and reduce carbon.
