(Thursday, October 23, 2014) – Ontario midwives and their supporters are using the Twitter hashtag MidwifeMondays to send a clear message to the Ontario government that midwifery matters and that government leadership is needed to continue growing and supporting midwifery care.

Lisa M. Weston, President of the Association of Ontario Midwives:

SOUNDBITE:

MIDWIVES HELP REALIZE THE GOVERNMENT’S MANDATE OF PROVIDING BETTER ACCESS, BETTER QUALITY AND BETTER VALUE FOR MONEY. MIDWIVES DIVERT HEALTHY WOMEN AND BABIES OUT OF HOSPITAL AND INTO THE COMMUNITY, KEEP COSTLY INTERVENTIONS AT A MINIMUM AND FREE HIGH-RISK PROVIDERS TO DEAL WITH COMPLEX CASES. (:15)

To get involved in MidwifeMondays, send a tweet to Dr Eric Hoskins and Premier Kathleen Wynne, letting them know that midwifery care is valuable to clients and the health care system.
