NATURAL SOUND FROM PLANT DEMOLITION – 5 seconds

Early this morning, Florida Power and Light demolished its Port Everglades Power Plant paving the way for a cleaner, more-efficient plant. When the four 350-foot candy-cane stacks and 7,500-ton boilers came down, it was the largest power plant demolition in Florida’s history. The Port Everglades plant was a staple of South Florida’s skyline for more than 50 years.

Vice President of External Affairs Pam Rauch says the boom will be long-term for Florida and its economy.

WE ARE BUILDING A CLEANER, MORE EFFICIENT POWER PLANT THAT WILL RUN ON LOW-COST AMERICAN NATURAL GAS. THE NEW PLANT WILL USE 35 PERCENT LESS FUEL, WHICH WILL HELP KEEP CUSTOMERS’ BILLS LOW, AND WILL REDUCE AIR EMISSIONS BY MORE THAN 90 PERCENT. IN ITS FIRST YEAR ALONE, THE NEW PLANT WILL BRING MORE THAN $20 MILLION OF TAX REVENUES AND CONSTRUCTION WILL CREATE HUNDREDS OF JOBS.
