February is “Save Your Vision Month”

September 3, 2018

Dear PSA Director,

February is “Save Your Vision Month” and the American Academy of Ophthalmology wants to remind Americans to get a painless medical eye exam that could save their vision. Many people wait until they have symptoms to see a doctor, but since many eye diseases have no warning signs, a condition could be stealing your sight without you knowing it.

Serious eye diseases like age-related macular degenerationdiabetic retinopathy andglaucoma often have no early symptoms or warning signs. However, it is in the early stages of eye disease that treatments can most effectively prevent blindness. The only way to catch many eye diseases early is through screening with a dilated eye exam.

To prevent blindness, EyeCare America, a public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, provides eye exams at no out-of-pocket cost to qualifying participants. Americans age 65 and older are encouraged to visit www.eyecareamerica.org to find out if they qualify for an eye exam at no out-of-pocket cost with one of EyeCare America’s 7,000 volunteer ophthalmologists.

I invite you to help urge your listeners  to take steps to protect their vision during “Save Your Vision Month” in February, by placing this PSA in heavy rotation between now and Friday, March 1, 2013. Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Christine Douglass

American Academy of Ophthalmology
