The electronic health record system serving U.S. veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is being upgraded. The V-A has awarded a contract to improve the system, called VistA, which provides an electronic health record to optimize quality medical care for veterans. The V-A’s Computerized Patient Record System will also be updated, providing a web-based single interface for managing patient care and records.

Jim Traficant, president of A-S-M Research, an Accenture Federal Services Company, which has been awarded the contract, outlines the benefits of modernizing the records.

OUR NEW VA SOLUTION WILL MODERNIZE THE CLINICAL WORKFLOW AND INFORMATION ACCESS ACROSS THE CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR OUR VETERANS. AND BY UNIFORMALY SHARING INFORMATION ACROSS THE ENTERPRISE, WE’LL HELP THE VA IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CARE, PATIENT SAFETY, AND AT THE SAME TIME LOWER THE COST OF CARE DELIVERED.  IT’S A PRIVILEGE TO HELP TAKE CARE OF THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN CARE OF US.
