(Pensacola, FL, Tuesday, September 13, 2016) – Despite nationwide job growth in science, technology, engineering and math, known as STEM, the U.S. is currently experiencing a shortage of interest and preparation in STEM subjects amongst K-12 students. The STEM opportunity gap is especially prevalent amongst military youth as they attend an average of six to nine different schools during their academic careers.

To help bridge this opportunity gap, Raytheon is establishing Centers of Innovation at Boys and Girls Clubs serving U.S. military installations across the country. This week, the organization announced it will open a Center of Innovation at Eglin Air Force Base which will feature modern technology, expert staff, and mentors to lead students in hands-on activities. The Centers will play a pivotal role in inspiring student interest in STEM fields and careers.

Jim Clark, President and CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, highlights the benefits of the partnership.
