Lisa Gill, Consumer Reports’ Prescription Drug Editor

(Yonkers, NY, Wednesday, August 12, 2015) A new poll from Consumer Reports shows one in three Americans are being hit with surprise high drug prices at the pharmacy, affecting both their health and their wallet. Consumer Reports is out with the new edition of its guide, Best Drugs for Less, which offers free information to consumers about prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Lisa Gill, prescription drug editor for Consumer Reports, says consumers need to be informed about their options.

SOUNDBITE #1:

THESE PRESCRIPTION DRUG COST HIKES DON’T LEAVE PEOPLE WITH MANY OPTIONS: THEY EITHER PAY FOR THE DRUG OR THEY SIMPLY WON’T GET IT. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN TAKING MEDICATION AND GOING GROCERY SHOPPING.

SOUNDBITE #2:

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, YOU CAN SAVE A BUNDLE BY COMPARISON SHOPPING. CALL AROUND TO BOTH INDEPENDENTS AND CHAIN PHARMACIES IN YOUR AREA AND SEE WHICH ONE OFFERS THE BEST PRICE. OUR SECRET SHOPPERS FOUND YOU CAN GET A BETTER DEAL SOMETIMES IF YOU JUST ASK THE PHARMACY IF THEY’RE GIVING YOU THEIR LOWEST, POSSIBLE PRICE.
