Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and an additional 79 million Americans have prediabetes, putting them at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  To help address this epidemic, the American Diabetes Association announces its 2013 schedule for their free community health events throughout the country – the American Diabetes Association EXPO.  The association is inviting the public to attend EXPO to learn how to be healthy, active and live well with diabetes and show their support of the movement to Stop Diabetes.

Dr. Seaquist discusses ways your local community can take advantage of new, free health screenings, cooking demonstrations, product exhibits, and presentations on diabetes prevention and management.  about the American Diabetes Expo also has Family Fun/Healthy Kids area, filled with information and activities geared toward youth with diabetes and their families.

The goal of the American Diabetes Association EXPO is to help those with diabetes take steps to better manage the disease and lower the risk of its deadly complications.  Dr. Seaquist will remind everyone that early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes is critical, but unfortunately, many people living with diabetes do not even know they have it.
