(Washington, D.C., Monday, December 7, 2015) - President Obama signed into law a five year transportation infrastructure bill that will invest more than $300 billion in our nation’s public transportation systems and highways. Called Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act or FAST Act, this infrastructure legislation is critical for helping our country’s transportation system, including the millions of people who take public buses and trains every day.
The House and Senate voted to pass the legislation on December 3.
Valarie J. McCall, the Chair of the American Public Transportation Association, also called APTA, applauded the passage of FAST Act.
THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR AMERICANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. I CONGRATULATE CONGRESS FOR PASSING THE FAST ACT BILL, NOW SIGNED INTO LAW BY PRESIDENT OBAMA. THIS CRITICAL LEGISLATION, PROVIDES INCREASED INVESTMENT IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS IN SMALL, MEDIUM, AND LARGE COMMUNITIES.
APTA President and CEO Michael Melaniphy emphasized the economic importance of this legislation.

A WELL-FUNDED, LONG TERM SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BILL IS CRITICAL TO THE ECONOMIC PROSPERITY OF OUR NATION’S COMMUNITIES. TO SUM IT UP, WHEREVER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION GOES, COMMUNITY GROWS.
