(Washington, D.C., Tuesday, May 9, 2017) β New parents often face an exhausting challenge in trying to figure out why their babies keep crying, and how to calm them down. For those unlucky parents of babies with infantile colic β about 20 percent β the mystery remains especially frustrating and their inconsolable babies seem to cry forever.
But, a new formula has been found effective in reducing infantile colic β at least for some babies β and in greatly improving the quality of life for parents and baby. The formula β which decreased crying episodes by 85 percent β seems to help resolve an imbalance in the gut microbiome, a possible cause of colic. The formula also assists in breaking down proteins into smaller pieces, making it easier for babies to digest.
Dr. Yvan Vandenplas, head of the unit for pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the University Hospital Brussels, discusses these findings shared at Digestive Disease Week, the worldβs largest gathering of physicians and researchers in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery.
