Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers

(Pittsburgh, PA, Monday, July 16, 2018) - More than 3,000 members and leaders of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), representing teachers, paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel, higher education faculty and staff, nurses and healthcare professionals, and public employees, will come together this summer for their biennial national convention in Pittsburgh.

The theme of this year’s event is, “We care. We fight. We show up.”

The wave of teacher activism surrounding public school investment will take center stage as well, with a renewed call to turn the political moment into a movement and to engage members in their union through the November elections.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. President Randi Weingarten and the AFT have a strong vision for how policymakers should be advancing the promise of an America that ensures our economy and our public schools enable opportunity for everyone and not just a wealthy few.
