Dawn Zier, CEO of Nutrisystem, provides tips to prepare for post-holiday eating, and why it is important to remain as healthy as possible during the holidays.

WELL, IF YOU’RE ALREADY THINKING ABOUT YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION OF LOSING WEIGHT, THEN YOU’RE NOT ALONE. I THINK WE ALL ARE AND WE ALL WORRY ABOUT WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN OVER THE HOLIDAYS. SO, THE NUMBER ONE HINT IS DON’T WRITE OFF ALL OF DECEMBER. YOU KNOW TAKE SOME TIME AND PLAN EACH DAY CAREFULLY. ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS ALSO KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE FOR JANUARY. UP THE ODDS OF STICKING WITH YOUR RESOLUTION BY STARTING TO GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME NOW, AND YOUR PANTRY AND FRIDGE POST-HOLIDAY READY.

FOR MOST OF US, THERE’S A LOT OF TEMPTATION OVER THE HOLIDAYS, A LOT OF REALLY GOOD STUFF, A LOT OF ALCOHOL. SO YOU KNOW, IT COMES DOWN TO PRIORITIZING BECAUSE WE DON’T WANT TO HIT JANUARY AND REALIZE THAT WE’VE GAINED FIVE, TEN, FIFTEEN POUNDS. IT’S NOT THAT EASY TO LOSE WEIGHT. SO, IF WE REALLY ARE CONSCIENTIOUS NOW, MAKE SMART CHOICES BEFORE WE GO TO THE PARTIES, BEFORE WE CELEBRATE IN TERMS OF WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO, WHAT WE’RE NOT GOING TO DO. AND THEN ON THE QUIETER DAYS IN DECEMBER YOU KNOW, REALLY STICK TO A PLAN THAT IS ALL ABOUT HEALTHY EATING.

FIRST, WEIGH YOURSELF MORE OFTEN. YOU KNOW THAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE SOMETIMES WE HAVE A TENDENCY NOT TO WEIGH OURSELVES IF WE DON’T FEEL WE’RE ADHERING TO OUR PLAN. AND THIS IS ACTUALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME TO WEIGH YOURSELF. EXERCISE A LITTLE MORE, BURN CALORIES SO YOU CAN HAVE A LITTLE MORE CALORIES AT YOUR DISPOSAL SHOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE A TASTE OR A LITTLE SNACK OF SOMETHING. MAKE YOUR PRIORITIES, DECIDE YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE DESSERT OR WINE, NOT NECESSARILY BOTH. AND IF YOU’RE GOING TO A BIG PARTY, IT’S REALLY HELPFUL NOT TO GO TO A PARTY THAT YOU WAIT ALL DAY TO GO TO THE PARTY, SO WHEN YOU GET THERE, YOU’RE ACTUALLY STARVING. IT’S ACTUALLY A BEST PRACTICE TO EAT BEFORE, SO YOU DON’T GO TO A PARTY HUNGRY.
